I admit it. I love to watch chaos in the college football Bowl Championship Series (BCS) process.
Last weekend’s college football results were one big glorious mess for some teams while other teams’ fortunes boldly rose.
We are now separating the contenders from the pretenders coming down the stretch in November.
Don’t you just love it?
After the University of Houston blasted South Florida on Saturday, there are now just four unbeaten teams remaining at the top of the SwampSwami.com College Football Top 25 rankings for the weekend ending October 27. Alabama, Clemson, UCF, and Notre Dame would make my Final Four by simply winning out.
On the other end of the spectrum, let’s give some love to San Jose State for getting their first win of the season on Saturday by defeating UNLV. That leaves the University of Texas-El Paso as the lone team without a win out of the 130 teams competing in the NCAA football upper division.
Speaking of surprises, the Georgia Southern Eagles have flown into the SwampSwami Top 25 for the first time this week at #19.
If you don’t know much about Georgia Southern, the school is located in Statesboro, Georgia. If you don’t know where Statesboro is, the city of about 30,000 residents is located about 60 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia.
If you still don’t know much about Georgia Southern, the program won six small division (FCS) titles in fifteen years between 1985 and 2000. The Eagles opted to move up into the top football division in 2014 and currently competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
Georgia Southern is now 7-1 and obliterated my former #24 team, Appalachian State, by a 34-14 count on Saturday. The Eagles could be working their way up into a very nice bowl game – if they keep winning.
With only four unbeaten teams and 16 one-loss teams, SwampSwami had to dig into the large pile (18) of two loss teams to complete this week’s rankings. As always, I review each team’s wins and give preference to teams with the most impressive wins in 2018.
